MUSLIM COUNCIL OF CALGARY'S STATEMENT ON TEXAS CHURCH SHOOTING
“Whoever kills a person [unjustly]…it is as though he has killed all mankind. And whoever saves a life, it is as though he had saved all mankind.” [Quran, 5:32]
As reported by various media channels, there has been yet another episode of heinous mass murder in United States of America. This time targeting peaceful church going community members in a small town in Texas. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and families of this horrendous attack of violent hatred in Sutherland Springs, USA. The brutal crime, which killed dozens of people and wounded many others is shocking by all means but particularly because it took place in a church, a sacred place of worship where people of faith seek peace and comfort and share the values of compassion and tolerance.
Members of the Muslim Council of Calgary and its affiliate organizations would like to extend their heartfelt and deepest sympathies to all those affected by this horrific act of violence and we hope and pray that those injured have a complete and rapid recovery.
We strongly urge all communities and groups to reject such brutal mindset at all costs. The killing of innocent people should be condemned by everyone, regardless of race or religion. We must stand united in our efforts to stop those responsible and to fight against hate by embracing the values of diversity, inclusion and peace.
