“Whoever kills a person [unjustly]…it is as though he has killed all mankind. And whoever saves a life, it is as though he had saved all mankind.” [Qur’an, 5:32]
The Muslim Council of Calgary condemns the New York truck attack in the strongest words possible. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of New York in this time of sorrow.
Members of the Muslim Council of Calgary and its affiliate organizations would like to extend their heartfelt and deepest sympathies to all those affected by this horrific act of violence. No innocent people should have to face such pain and tragedy.
We would like to remind the community to remain more vigilant and make all efforts to isolate those who are working against the core values of civilized societies and flout the basic principles of all religions and beliefs. Such practices by any group, whosoever the perpetrator, are barbaric and inhuman. The killing of innocent victims should be condemned by everyone. We must also stand together against those people who would use this incident to spread extremist views and also those who would spread fear and hate within our society.
